Miscellaneous Violations
The City of Snellville Zoning Ordinance requires adherence to certain minimum regulations in order to promote and protect the public health, safety, convenience, order, and general welfare of City citizens. The ordinance applies to all structures and premises within the City limits.
No dwelling unit shall contain more than one family. No such family shall contain more than five members, unless all family members are related by blood or marriage.
Major recreational equipment may only be parked in the side or rear yard or in a carport or fully enclosed building. In the case of corner lots, no equipment may be stored in the side yard on the street side of the lot. An exception is made for a loading and unloading period not to exceed 24-hours, during which time the equipment may be parked anywhere on the premises. No such equipment shall be used for living, sleeping, or housekeeping purposes while parked or stored on any property. Major recreational equipment includes boats and boat trailers, travel trailers, pickup campers or coaches (designed to be mounted on automotive vehicles), motorized dwellings, tent trailers, and cases or boxes used for transporting recreational equipment, whether occupied by such equipment or not.
In all residential districts, the parking of any vehicle larger than a van or pickup truck (not including recreational equipment) is prohibited. There are exceptions to this regulation in certain cases.
1) Such vehicle may park within a fully enclosed structure that meets all other criteria of the zoning district.
2) Such vehicle may park on the side or to the rear of the primary residential structure provided that the lot is 5 acres or larger and the vehicle is no closer than 100 feet to any property line.
Automotive vehicles with more than four wheels, major recreational equipment, and buses (including school buses) are prohibited from parking on residential streets or within public right-of-way.
All code violations are prosecuted in Municipal Court and are subject to a penalty of up to $1,000 and/or 60 days in jail per violation. To report code violations, please contact Jason Thompson, City Planner, at (770) 985-3518 or jthompson@snellville.org.
