Run Off needed to decide Post 1; Hetherington defeats incumbent Destang

SNELLVILLE – There will be a Run Off Election Dec. 5 to decide the Post 1 Council Post, while Kerry Hetherington defeated incumbent Solange Destang in the contested race in Tuesday’s General Election.

Mayor Barbara Bender will serve another term as she did not face a challenger. She received 1,516 votes.

Norman A. Carter and Catherine Hardrick will take part in the Run Off next month after neither candidate reached the required 50 percent-plus-one needed to win the election outright.

Hetherington had 1,029 votes while Destang had 699.

Unofficially, Elizdine Heathington received 45 votes or 2.6 percent of the 1,746 ballots cast. Hardrick had 858 votes, Carter had 843. Hardrick and Carter will now vie for the Post 1 seat vacated by Councilman Dave Emanuel after he was elected to and completed three, four-year terms, reaching his term limit.

Once the election is certified, official results will be posted at Snellville.org.
