Mayor and Council approve millage rate

SNELLVILLE — Mayor and Council approved a millage rate of 4.00 mills on Monday evening. This is the same levy as last year and significantly lower than the 4.588 mills which was the rate from 2014 - 2022.

The median house value in Snellville is about $298,000 and, according to city officials, this median homeowner would pay $476 in taxes this year before exemptions were applied.

Mayor and Council recently approved the city’s FY’24 operating budget of $15.33 million and this millage rate will meet the tax revenue projection included in that budget.

Taxes collected from this millage form the largest revenue source the city has and are necessary to balance the new budget.

Overall digest growth has been strong the last few years as the economy has recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic and that has helped Mayor and Council to reduce/maintain the millage rate.
